Day 10 Saturday
Up early this morning and subway to the
Rockefeller Center, finally got to go up Top of the Rock and wow what
a great view, it was more spacious and a lot nicer experience than
the ESB, the staff were nicer and no shouting. Explored all the
floors for a while, it was nice to be able to recognise some of the
places we had already been that week.
Got the subway down to W4th Street
station to explore Greenwich Village. I had printed off a walking
tour I found on-line so we followed that, half way through it we
stopped at Rocco's Pastry shop for a drink and we had a French lulu
pastry, in hindsight we should have got smaller ones but they were
very tasty.
Finished the walking tour and found a
big market going on along University Place, we walked all the way
through the market to Union Square , however noticed that the stalls
seemed to repeat them selves after every junction, I got some glass
necklaces for me and a T-shirt for my Nephew, headed back to the
village to Bleeker Street, got some bread and cheese to take back to the hotel.
Carl was tired so I left him in the
room and had a wander around Macy's, it was very busy and I am sure
they moved all the clothes I liked the previous visit as I could not
find them, did find the Christmas bauble department by accident
though!
That evening we were going to a concert
in Brooklyn Heights, we first walked down 5th Avenue to near the
Flatiron Building to the Madison Square Eats festival, we only wanted
something light for tea so tried a Beef Wangding from the Aisiadog
stall.
We got on the subway at 28th Street
near the Flatiron in good time but due to weekend works got swapped
around a lot and only just got to the concert on time, result
panicky Zoe, arrived in time after all but very hot and bothered,
lovely cold drinks waiting for us though, love the abundance of ice
here!
The concert organiser was a lady called
Coco Wilde and she gave us a lovely welcome, we had booked our
tickets via email, in the email she had let us know that they were
collecting donations of non perishable items for a homeless project
so we took a donation of canned goods and she was surprised and
pleased that we did as requested. The concert venue was an old
church room with great acoustics which was why they called it First
Acoustics, here is their link
http://www.firstacoustics.org/Index.html they have lots of events
coming up. We saw a duo called Buskin & Batteau supported by
Freebo, it was a great evening and we got back to the hotel without
any more subway issues.
