Day Six Tuesday
Up in the morning and on the F train
downtown to 2nd Avenue station, along to Clinton street to have
breakfast at The Clinton Street Baking Company, we had not had
pancakes yet and I had seen good reviews on this place as the nicest
place to try them, we both had the blueberry pancakes and they were
delicious, very hot, fresh, light fluffy, melt in your mouth, I could
eat them again now!
After breakfast we waddled to Economy
Candy to look at the sweets and scope out gift ideas for home, there
was a cat in the store, the only cat I saw in Nyc. We went back to
the subway via Russ and Daughters, I wanted to try bagel with lox
from here but not this time, got some rugelach and Dr Browns Cel-ray
soda to try as they were both on my NYC foods to try list. Took them
with us on the subway, we went up to 63rd Street on the F train and
headed for Central park Zoo. I had printed a 20% off coupon at home
and brought it with us, it was accepted no problem, we enjoyed a
wander around the zoo, the Snow Leopard was called Zoe, the Zoo was
small and manageable, we walked out past the Delacourt clock and
into the children's section, it was raining hard by now and deserted
however we fed some Alpacas with some of the food from the vending
machine, made use of the very clean restrooms and washed our hands
then went out into the park sat and ate our rugelach and drank the
celery soda, the rugelach was nice, I liked the soda, Carl hated it,
we both don't like celery.
Rain was very heavy and we sat for a
while under a porch at the dairy, when it eased a bit we walked out
of the park went for a 99c pizza slice on Broadway near W55th Street,
scoped out Carnegie Hall, we would be attending a concert there on
the last night. The pizza was hot and fresh if a little greasy, not
bad for 99c a slice! After the pizza we headed to Columbus Circle,
still raining we went in for a look around Wholefoods market, this
was an amazing place, if you have not already guessed I love food and
the food displays here were wonderful, the prepared food all looked
so nice I vowed to come back for a takeaway picnic later in the
holiday.
We needed somewhere to sit and wait
until 4pm as we had tickets for the Discovering Columbus art
instillation, went into a Starbucks nearby as everywhere in the Time
Warner Center was packed and got a coffee and a cake pop and had a
break. We climbed all the stairs and got a good look at the statue
of Columbus looking like he was on somebody's coffee table in their
living room, interesting to see him up close, not much to say about
this really so back down after 15 ins, decided to get the subway to
Times Square as we had made reservations at Virgil's for our pre
theatrer meal, the reservations were made for 5pm but theylett us in
straight away, I am not sure I needed to make the reservations or not
as it was not busy but that might have been due to how early in the
evening it was. This was our first experience of American BBQ food
and very enjoyable, maybe not completely authentic but we loved every
bite, the service was quick and friendly, the food hot and nicely
cooked. We both tried ribs and pulled pork. For dessert we went to
Ellen's Stardust Diner, Carl had Lemon meringue pie and I had a Pecan
Pie, the waiters and waitresses climbing on the tables singing show
songs were great fun I know this place is considered a tourist trap
however we are tourists and have never been anywhere like this, the
desserts were nice, the service OK and it set the scene for our show.
next was the show we had booked months ago, Wicked, we had front row
of the Mezzanine and aisle seats, I got a drink in a nice souvenir
cup that I saved and brought home, Wicked was excellent, the story
was great, the cast and set brilliant and the atmosphere wonderful,
we loved it. Floated back home to the hotel via 8th Avenue down to
W35th and along.
